PADAWAN IN TRAINING
I’m always amazed at how Richard Isanove is able to elevate any piece of black and white art. But this piece will forever bring a smile to my face because he was kind enough to hire my daughter Carlie to do the initial color flats for him.
These are the kinds of things that only mean something to a father but I’m selfishly posting it regardless. While she has many interests outside of art and I don’t know where life will take her, I will always look back at her signature inside mine and know that the force is strong with this one.

When I woke up yesterday the news said 20 were dead. By the time I went to bed, it was 50.
They are not statistics. They are not numbers on a graph to be argued about. They were latino, black, and white. Men and women of all different ages. Most were gay, but a few were not. All celebrating with music and dance and lights and drinks and a vibrant community. They were all of us. They were people, each a world unto themselves. Every one a source of endless possibility, now extinguished. Know their names and their faces. See the empty spaces they leave in the world, and see if you can find it in yourself to stay quiet and do nothing.
Don’t send your thoughts and prayers. That time passed years ago, and words are only so much air. Get mad. Vote. Send letters. Sign petitions and yell and scream and say we will not accept this. Not again. Not ever again. Not in our schools or our theaters or in the places where we go to dance and sing and be safe. The places where we go to be together. The places where we are the most vulnerable, because they are where we are most human.
Have a good cry and hug the people you love. Tell them that you love them. Remember the lives that were lost, and take action. We owe them at least that much.
